Compare shared boat departures, private requests and Lima pickup packages by pier, total fare and cancellation terms.
BallestasIslands.com is an independent travel guide. We are not SERNANP, a reserve authority or a tour operator.
Choose a shared Paracas departure if you can reach the waterfront yourself. Ask for a private boat only when the supplier confirms that the boat itself is private. A Lima pickup package is a different purchase with a road transfer attached. Compare the exact fee breakdown, boarding rules and cancellation terms before deciding.

- Verdict on a Ballestas Islands tour
A Ballestas Islands tour is a boat trip from the Paracas coast, with wildlife watching around offshore rocks. Choose the departure and the total price you can actually use. A cheap boat fare is less useful if you cannot reach its meeting point or if extra charges change your budget at the pier.
Compare boat departure formats
Start with the place you board and the service you want; ask about the full fare and sea-dependent operation.

Choose a Ballestas Islands tour by departure
Choose where the trip begins first. Staying in Paracas lets you book a local boat. You won't need a long road transfer. Sleeping in Lima means a different choice.
Read about trips from Lima before you compare fares. Hotel pickup adds a road trip to the boat outing.
Think about your next booking too. A fixed bus or flight leaves less room for a delay. A listed time does not prove a boat will sail that day. Leave a gap after the boat's planned return.
This matters most if the islands are your main reason to stop.
Shared departure: best for independent visitors
Shared boat from Paracas
Best for: You already have a place to stay in Paracas and can reach the stated pier.
Evidence: IslasBallestas.pe publishes a shared departure with a guide and life jacket. Its meeting instructions name El Chaco.
Trade-off: You share the seating and the pace. Travel to the meeting point and listed extra charges need separate attention.
Check the boarding questionsThe supplier's shared-tour page separates the boat fare from extra charges. It also gives the meeting point. Checked October 2026. These are that seller's terms.
Other firms may differ, and space on your date is not assured.
Private arrangement: best for a group with a specific need
Private boat request
Best for: Your group needs a dedicated boat and wants the supplier to confirm its boarding arrangements in advance.
Evidence to request: A written offer naming the vessel arrangement, passenger limit, crew and departure point.
Trade-off: Private transport to the pier does not mean a private boat. A dedicated vessel also remains subject to maritime restrictions.
Check the private-boat wordingThis is a type of purchase to ask about. It is not a named charter pick. Ask which part is private: the car, the guide or the boat. A private car may take you to a shared boat.
Pay for the part you want to have to yourself.
Shared and private boat choices
Ask about what matters to your group. For cost, compare the total for everyone. If you need help to board, ask about the steps. Find out what help the crew can give.
For bird photos, ask how the guide arranges views. Do not ask the crew to disturb a colony.
This is a comparison of booking formats, not a table of live availability. It deliberately avoids a lowest-price claim. Fares without the same inclusions cannot be ranked fairly. A listed child fare is also not proof that a child can board under the operator's age or seating rules.
Departure point and boarding steps
El Chaco is the place to find before you travel. A town pin is too vague. Ask the seller for its check-in address and pier name. Save both on your phone.
The office may be some way from the boat.
PROMPERÚ lists El Chaco Pier and the Paracas Tourist Marina as departure points. The shared tour above names El Chaco. Neither source proves that each pier is in use every day. Get the current place from the firm you book with.
Use that address rather than an old map label.
Before leaving your accommodation:
- Meeting details: Save the address, map pin, contact number and check-in time.
- Passenger details: Ask which identity document each passenger must carry.
- Children: Check age, seat and life-jacket arrangements for the actual child.
- Boarding: Describe any mobility need and ask about steps, gaps and help.
- Bags: Check what can come aboard and where larger luggage stays.
- Afterwards: Confirm the return pier before booking an onward transfer.
Reach the meeting point at the lead time your supplier gives you. A scheduled sailing time is not an instruction to arrive at the last moment. Use the toilets ashore before boarding and keep your confirmation easy to retrieve without a mobile signal.
Boat fare, reserve entry and pier charges
Ask for an itemised total in soles or in the currency you will pay. Separate the boat ticket, protected-area entry, pier use and any transfer. If the seller collects several charges together, ask which receipts you will receive. This avoids paying twice for something already included.
The SERNANP page lists fees for national and local visitors. It does not settle what a foreign visitor pays now. Do not use a domestic rate unless it applies to you. Ask which rate you need.
Check the date and any proof you must bring.
Write down what each person pays. A child may pay a different entry fee but the same boat fare. Ask how to pay any charge at the pier. A card payment for the boat may not cover it.
Have the right payment method ready before you queue.
If you plan to visit the mainland reserve as well, ask whether any protected-area ticket applies to both visits. A boat ticket is not automatically a combined reserve ticket. The full-day Paracas guide helps separate the two outings before you compare packages.
Inclusions and wildlife expectations
Watch the islands from the boat. Peru's tourism and park authorities describe sea lions and Humboldt penguins here. There are seabirds too. No source can promise an animal in view from your seat.
Think of the trip as a chance to watch, not a set of photos you must get.
Use the animal guide to learn what to look for. Pause to watch before you take a photo. A bird can vanish behind a rock as the boat moves. Keep the camera close to you.
Leave the view clear for the person next to you too.
Bring a windproof layer and sun cream. Keep your hat secure and your camera attached to you. PROMPERÚ says to stay seated and avoid sudden moves. SERNANP says to wear the life jacket and not feed wildlife.
Follow your crew even if another boat is closer to the rocks.
Cancellation and sea conditions
A sunny shore does not prove a safe sea. Read the weather guide for the checks to make. The land forecast and sea warning serve different jobs. Ask how the seller will tell you if the boat cannot run.
Check when to expect that message.
Read the terms before you book. Check what happens if the seller cancels. Ask about your own cancellation or a trip cut short too. Each can have different terms.
Ask if you get a refund, a new date or a different outing. Keep the reply with your booking.
For a combined package, establish what happens to the rest of the day if the boat cannot run. Do not assume that a partial refund includes the road transfer or other stops. Decide in advance whether the alternative would still be worth the trip for you.

FAQ: questions before paying
Does a Ballestas tour include every fee?
Only if the offer explicitly says so. Ask the seller to separate the boat fare, protected-area entry, pier use and transfer. Check the total for each traveller and the payment method for extras. Keep that written breakdown with your confirmation so you can resolve a disputed charge at check-in.
Does a private transfer include a private boat?
No. Those are separate services. A car can take only your party to a shared boat departure. Ask the supplier which part is private, then check the written description and price.
If the boat is dedicated, ask for its passenger limit and boarding arrangements as well as its departure point.
Can I choose a trip by its wildlife list?
Use the list to understand the setting, not to buy a guaranteed sighting. Animals move and visibility varies. The useful comparison is how the trip handles viewing, safety and the conditions that day. No responsible boat choice should depend on getting close enough to feed or disturb an animal.
What should I do if the sailing is cancelled?
Follow the supplier's message and keep the written cancellation notice. Check the terms for the boat and each other part of your purchase. A package may have different rules from a standalone ticket. If you have an onward booking, contact that provider too rather than assuming it will move automatically.

Verdict on a Ballestas Islands tour
Choose a Ballestas Islands tour by a usable departure, an itemised total and clear cancellation terms. A shared local boat is the simplest format to compare when you are already in Paracas. A private boat or Lima package needs more precise wording. Pay for the arrangements you need, with room for the sea to decide the final route.
